From Praise to Rage: Right-wing Response to Epstein File Disclosure is Divided.

Right-leaning reactions to the partial release of documents related to the Jeffrey Epstein case have been mixed, with certain supporters of the previous administration pointing out the prominent appearance of former President Clinton and additional Democratic figures in photographs, while others lamented how heavy redactions portray Donald Trump and GOP members in a unfavorable light.

Administration Defends Redactions with Fervent Rhetoric

Administration officials justified the redactions with fervent exaggerated language. “Never in American the nation's history has a President or the Department of Justice been so transparent with the American people about such a delicate legal issue,” declared Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, who released a detailed letter outlining the redaction procedure.

Questions Prompted by Redactions

While Trump's name and likeness appear in some of the documents, the extensive black blocks raise serious concerns about what may be hidden beneath them. A number of Republicans swiftly called for greater openness.

“People are raging and disengaging,” posted Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Via a social media post, GOP Kentucky Thomas Massie said the redactions break the statute, and suggested that a future Congress may move to impeach the top law enforcement official, Pam Bondi, for that violation. “Regrettably, today’s file dump egregiously does not adhere to both the intent and the wording of the law,” he continued.

A Faction of Rightwing Figures Rally In Support of the Disclosure

But, a segment of rightwing pundits and former President allies swung firmly behind the administration.

The disclosed materials—from a justice department led by key Trump ally Pam Bondi—includes scores of documents that are entirely redacted, and many of the individuals depicted in photographs have their faces blacked out.

Yet a few are not, including high-profile individuals like Clinton, entertainer Michael Jackson, and scholar Noam Chomsky. The inclusion of Clinton, especially, enabled some rightwing voices to go on the attack.

“It’s pretty rich how the political left falsely claimed Donald Trump of being a sex offender, only for the Trump DOJ to release Epstein files that show Bill Clinton swimming nude with a convicted sex offender,” wrote conservative commentator Laura Loomer.

“New documents reveal Bill Clinton without a shirt in a hot tub with a female that is other than his spouse Hillary Clinton,” wrote attorney Rogan O’Handley. “There’s only one explanation Epstein would photograph a Commander-in-Chief with a girl in a jacuzzi: Blackmail.”

Former President Spokesperson Releases Statement

Bill Clinton has repeatedly stated he was aware of zero illegal actions by Epstein and has never been alleged to have participated in any wrongdoing. “The White House hasn’t been concealing those documents for months only to release them late on a Friday to protect Bill Clinton,” his spokesperson Angel Ureña said in a statement.

“This is about protecting themselves from future revelations, or from information they’ll try and conceal permanently. So they can release as many grainy 20-plus-year-old photos as they want, but it isn’t about Bill Clinton. Never has, never will be,” the statement concluded.

Broader Rightwing Commentary Remains Subdued

Nonetheless, broader comment on the right was relatively subdued after the release, particularly when compared with the loud calls for action that came before the legislative vote to pass a bill mandating the documents' release.

The commentator, who not long ago secured press credentials at the Pentagon, had been one of the loudest advocates for a full release. In February, she chastised the administration broadly and Bondi specifically after a set of conservative personalities were given hard-copy binders of files that included little new information.
